Absolutely Free @ Le Phare, Limoges

This week I was lucky enough  to attend one of the apéro concerts that are currently being held at Le Phare gallery in the centre of Limoges.

Having never really heard of the Canadian trio of young musicians that go by the name of Absolutely Free (prior to about two days ago) I was intrigued to hear what they had to offer. Having now seen them perform live, I can safely say that the couple of songs available on Bandcamp do not do the band justice!

The intimate setting that the gallery provided served as an ideal backdrop for the group’s own brand of psychedelic synth driven ‘astro-pop’. Although the language barrier made building a strong rapport with the audience a bit of a challenge, the band made up for this with their impressive ability to construct beautiful reverb drenched soundscapes before our very eyes and to segue effectively between each of their loopy and rhythmically engaging arrangements.

The band are currently winding down their European tour, so catch them while you can!
